Live updates as weather warning in place for Wales as snow forecast

The first day of meteorological spring has started wet and windy with a weather warning in place for most of Wales. The St David's Day warning is for rain, although some of that could fall as snow on higher ground - see when and where it's forecast here.

It comes after February ended as one of the wettest on record in parts of Wales. The latest warning is in place until 3pm on Friday (March 1). The Met Office warning is for a band of rain that will move north and east throughout the day.

Wales weather presenter Derek Brockway says: "A band of heavy rain will spread northeastwards with increasing wind. Snow on higher ground above 200-300 metres / 650-1000 feet. 1 to 5cm in places. More on some hills and mountains. Over 10cm 4" on Bannau Brycheiniog."

On Friday morning, Natural Resources Wales has five flood alerts in place, mainly in the Pembrokeshire area, with one on the River Thaw in the Vale of Glamorgan.

On the roads, one lane of the M48 Severn Bridge is closed in both direction because of strong winds. A lane is closed in each directions for safety in case vehicles get blown into adjacent lanes.

A fallen tree has also blocked the B4242 Glynneath near Chain Road in Neath Port Talbot. Follow our live updates below:
