Live updates as crash shuts M48 motorway

All lanes of a motorway in south Wales are shut due to a police incident. The M48 Severn Bridge is currently shut westbound from junction 2 for Chepstow to junction 23 of the M4.

Traffic cameras show emergency services are in attendance in the area. Traffic Wales has confirmed all lanes are shut going westbound and that the bridge remains open from junction 1 to junction 2 for access to Chepstow only.

Diversions are currently in place and people travelling to south Wales are being advised to use the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge. The incident is believed to have taken place at around 3pm on Saturday on a busy afternoon in south Wales, with Wales facing Italy in the Six Nations as well as the south Wales derby between Cardiff City and Swansea City in Leckwith.
