Live updates as multiple wildfires sweep tinder dry Wales

Emergency fire services in Wales are stretched to the limit as mountain fires break out across the country this week.

Firefighters are continuing to battle a large number of grass fires across the country and have asked the public to stop reporting grass fires via 999 unless their life or property is in immediate danger.

The largest of the gorse fires have been in the Baglan area of Neath Port Talbot, which started on Monday, April 7 and is still burning, as well as in Cwm Rheidol, Aberystwyth, which has raged for three days. The cause of both fires isn’t known yet.

Firefighters have used drones to assess how far the fire has spread, while nearby residents have been advised to keep windows and doors shut. Helicopters have also been deployed.
