Gasps as footage of headteacher attack on deputy shown to court - live updates
A headteacher is being sentenced for attacking his deputy at a secondary school in Wales. Anthony John Felton, known as John, was arrested following an incident at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Comprehensive in Aberavon, Neath Port Talbot, on March 5 this year.
Richard Pyke, 51, was treated for minor injuries in hospital following the attack and Felton later pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent.
There were audible gasps in the courtroom as footage of the attack was shown during the hearing. The court heard 54-year-old Felton was the headmaster of the school while Mr Pyke, who had worked at the school for 15 years and was an assistant head, and they had been friends for several years.
The two men began to discuss the contents of an email on March 5 when without warning Felton took a wrench from his jacket pocket discreetly and begins smacking Mr Pyke to the back of the head with it.
