Live updates as M48 Severn Bridge stretch closed due to 'multi-vehicle' crash

There is slow traffic on the M48 Severn Bridge following a "multi-vehicle" crash ahead of rush hour. The incident happened at around 3pm and is affecting the route westbound.

The road is shut westbound between junction one A403 (Aust) and junction two A466 Wye Valley Link Road (Chepstow).

Traffic is being diverted via the M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

According to traffic service Inrix the crash involved multiple vehicles and has seen traffic held since 3.20pm.

Traffic Wales confirmed the incident, warning of "heavy congestion in the area". National Highways warned people to "expect delays and allow for extra journey time".
