Live updates as M4 crash causes miles of traffic

There was more than two miles of congestion on the M4 in Cardiff after a crash. One lane of the westbound carriageway was closed following the accident between Junction 30 A4232 Pentwyn Link Road (Cardiff Gate) and Junction 32 A470 Northern Avenue (Coryton Interchange), according to traffic monitoring service Inrix.

South Wales Police confirmed that they were called to the scene at around 1.45pm. The vehicle involved in the crash had left the road, however, no injuries have been reported.

A spokesperson for the police force said: "South Wales Police were called shortly before 1:45pm (Wednesday, August 14) to a car that had left the road on the M4 westbound between junction 30 and 31. No injuries have been reported and one lane remained closed while the vehicle was recovered.”

At around 4.05pm, Inrix confirmed that all lanes had now been reopened. Traffic Wales also confirmed that the incident had been cleared. Queuing traffic remained in the area shortly afterwards, however at around 4.28pm, Inrix confirmed that traffic was easing.
