Bury fire LIVE updates as emergency services shut off roads amid huge blaze

Crews are in attendance after a fire broke out in Bury overnight. Firefighters have been on Pimhole Road since around 1.30am this morning (September 3).

It follows a blaze involving scrap metal at a commercial site. Eight fire engines were sent out to the scene initially, with four remaining this morning.

Heavy plumes of smoke have emerged from the site this morning. Residents are being urged to keep their windows and doors closed in the surrounding area.

A road closure is also in place. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just after 1.30am on Tuesday (September 3) eight fire engines plus a number of special appliances, including the turntable ladder and drone unit, were called to a fire involving a large amount of scrap metal at a commercial premises on Pimhole Road, Bury.

“Four fire engines remain in attendance while crews continue to tackle the blaze. Road closures in the surrounding area are in place and residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.”

There is a smaller firefighter presence on the site than earlier in the morning, when eight fire engines were sent out initially.

Pimhole Road is closed in both directions between Ormrod Street and School Street while crews work on the site.
