Live updates as crash shuts M4 near Swansea

All traffic is being held at a standstill due to accident on M4 Eastbound from Junction 40 to Junction 38.

Severe delays are building according to traffic monitoring system, Inrix, and drivers are affected travelling on the M4 between Port Talbot and Margam.

Traffic Wales has warned to "allow extra time" with lanes closed due to an accident, and South Wales Police are at the scene.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "We're at the scene of a serious collision on the M4 from junction 40 to junction 39 travelling eastbound

"The road is currently closed on the eastbound side. It is expected to remain closed for some time; please avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. We're grateful for your patience."
