Live updates as cordon in place following incident on Greater Manchester street
A cordon is in place following an incident in Newton Heath tonight (Friday, August 29).
Police and paramedics are at the scene on Gilmerton Drive, off Briscoe Lane, with the road taped off as a result.
Photographs from the scene show a heavy Greater Manchester Police presence.

The incident has been ongoing since at least 7.30pm and a police helicopter has been over the scene for around an hour.
The Manchester Evening News has a reporter at the scene and police have been contacted for comment.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said:
We were called around 7.25pm (29/08/25) to a disturbance on Gilmerton Drive.
Emergency services attended and a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Enquiries are ongoing."

Another neighbour has told me that armed police were at the scene earlier this evening. “All I’ve heard was that someone’s been stabbed,” they said. @MENnewsdesk

One police van and two police cars have just left the scene. Detectives are currently within the cordon"
One neighbour has told the MEN that the police were at the scene from around 7.30pm this evening. She said: “From what I have heard someone was stabbed.”
“I hate living round here, things like this are always happening. I hate it.”
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed officers were called to a disturbance at 7.25pm.
