Live updates as car smashes through doors of main Welsh hospital

A car has careered through a hospital entrance leaving a trail of destruction and sparking a heavy emergency services presence. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon, December 6, at the entrance to Wrexham Maelor Hospital in the north Wales city, NorthWalesLive reports.

Emergency services including North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene. A spokesman for North Wales Police said: "We were called at 1.54pm to reports of a single vehicle RTC at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

"Officers are currently in attendance and one person is being assessed for minor injuries. The front entrance to the hospital is currently cordoned off and the public are requested to avoid the immediate vicinity while emergency services deal with the incident."

Traffic monitoring system Inrix is attributing the incident to an accident, while an eyewitness has claimed that an elderly woman drove into the hospital entrance and was immediately helped out of the vehicle and seen to by hospital staff. Another witness said the crash "sounded like a bomb going off". Pictures from the scene show the scale of the damage to the hospital entrance, which has been cordoned off by police.
