BREAKING: Police cordon in place after 'shooting' outside McDonald's - live updates

A police scene is in place on busy Stockport Road (A6) this evening following reports of a 'targeted shooting' outside McDonald's.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police are at the scene of the incident in Ardwick, between A57 Hyde Road and A665 Devonshire Street. The road is closed off in both directions.

Officers were called to reports of gunshots at around 3pm. An investigation into the incident has been launched. Part of the road is closed.

Police were initially called to reports of gunshots being fired at around 3pm today, on Stockport Road (A6)

Officers attended and a scene has been in place ever since. Investigations remain ongoing at the scene.

Chief Inspector Chris Boyd, from GMP’s City of Manchester district, said: “This is clearly an extremely concerning incident, and I want to reassure the local community that a number of extensive enquiries are ongoing as we seek those responsible.

"We are putting in significant resources to thoroughly investigate this incident and those who live nearby can expect to see an increased police presence in the coming days.

“We are currently treating this as a targeted attack with no wider threat to the public. However, if anyone has any concerns, I would urge them to speak to an officer in their local area, who will be able to assist with any queries.
