Live updates as busy road closed and drivers urged to avoid area

Roads have been closed in a Greater Manchester town following reports of a collision in the area. Greater Manchester Police are responding to the incident on Warrington Lane in Wigan - with the road shut to traffic as a result.

According to eye witness reports, there were delays of up to 40 minutes due to the closure. Emergency services are on the scene and motorists have been told to avoid the area.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We are currently responding to a collision on Warrington Lane in Wigan. Emergency services are on scene and road closures are in place.

"Please avoid the area as this work is carried out."

A Wigan Council spokesperson added: "Please be aware Warrington Road, Ince (A573) is currently closed both ways due to an ongoing incident. Temporary traffic lights are in place on Darlington St East resulting in long delays. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route where possible."
