LIVE: Traffic stopped both ways on M6 as air ambulance lands after crashes - latest updates

There are huge queues and delays on a stretch of the M6 this afternoon following a serious crash..

Traffic was being held in both directions between junction 16 for Crewe and junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent, according to National Highways. There has been a 'serious' crash on the southbound side, as well as another crash on the northbound side.

An air ambulance has landed on the scene on the motorway. Queues are building near the closure, with drivers warned that 'traffic may be held for some time'.

The northbound carriageway has been opened but the southbound remains shut, and is likely to remain so for hours. As of 2pm, there are 90 minute delays and eight miles of queues on the southbound side.
