'Naughty', defensive doubts, special player - managers verdict on Man United target Jeremie Frimpong

Manchester United are continuing to monitor Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong ahead of this summer's transfer window.

It is no secret that United, who beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday to move to within six points of the top four, want to strengthen their defensive options ahead of next season. The club plans to strengthen at both right-back and centre-back, with Frimpong's Leverkusen teammate, Edmond Tapsoba, under consideration to bolster the heart of the defence.

Both players were identified as potential candidates to strengthen United's defence last year ahead of the 2023 summer transfer window. They have since gone from strength-to-strength, particularly Frimpong, who has played a starring role in Leverkusen's pursuit of the Bundesliga title this season.

The former Manchester City man, 23, scored his eighth goal of the season in Leverkusen's 3-0 win over title rivals Bayern Munich on Saturday. Xabi Alonso's side are now five points clear at the summit.

Frimpong is one of the biggest individual success stories within Leverkusen's fairytale campaign thus far, registering 10 assists in addition to his eight goals. He has kicked-on at a considerable rate over the past 12 months.
