LIVE: Severe delays on M6 after serious crash - latest updates

There are long delays on the M6 in Cheshire this morning after a crash. One lane is closed following the smash on the northbound stretch between junction 18 for Middlewich and Holmes Chapel and 19 for Knutsford.

Pictures show long queues with the AA reporting current delays of over 45 minutes.

Traffic has now returned to normal following the earlier crash

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said:

At 9.20am on Thursday 26 September, police were called to reports of a collision on the M6 northbound between junction 18 and 19.

The collision involved one car and one lorry. There are not believed to be reports of any injuries.

The scene was clear by 10.50am.

The AA's live service now says the delays in the area have reduced to around 12 minutes, but they are currently increasing it says

The AA"s live traffic information website says there are "severe delays" of 47 minutes on the affected stretch of the M6 with the average speed currently 5mph.

According to the traffic service Inrix, one is closed following the crash, which is leading to very slow traffic. Pictures from the motorway cameras in the area show long queues
