LIVE: Road cordoned off in Middleton as police inspect car with smashed window - latest updates

A road in Middleton has been cordoned off this evening with police seen inspecting a car with a smashed window.

Officers are on the scene of the incident near to the Farmfoods store, off Eastway, with a large cordon in place. A huge emergency services response, including multiple ambulances and police vehicles raced to the scene earlier today.

A taxi, a car and a white van have been pictured within the cordon, which stretches to nearby Chapel Street.

Further details about the incident have not yet been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.

A man has been left in a critical condition after a collision earlier today.

The M.E.N understands a vehicle crashed into two other vehicles at around 4.20pm.

One man has been taken to hospital and remains there in a critical condition.

It is thought the driver had suffered a medical episode in the incident.

Officers remain in attendance with a large cordon in place on Eastway and Chapel Street this evening.

We are awaiting full details on the nature of the incident from GMP.

A witness at the scene has told the M.E.N that officers were seen inspecting a car with a smashed window.

A taxi and a white van have also been pictured within the cordon.

"Currently police at the scene. There is a huge cordon from the roundabout up to the junction with Wood Street," they said.
