LIVE: Police tape off major Manchester road following incident - latest updates

Traffic has been stopped and a cordon has been put in place on a busy Manchester road.

Officers are at the scene on Stockport Road, in Longsight, this afternoon (April 25).

A closure is currently in place on the road, at the junction with Kirkmanshulme Lane.

Several buses have been stopped from travelling on the road, which is a busy bus route between Stockport and the city centre.

One eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News: "A queue of 192 buses have stopped on Stockport Road and police have cordoned off an area at junction at Kirksmanshulme Lane.

"No buses are heading towards Manchester."

Another witness reported seeing a cordon in place with 'glass in the area'.

Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed.
