LIVE: Moor fire breaks out near Greater Manchester landmark - latest updates
A fire has broken out on moorland close to a Greater Manchester landmark.
Smoke has been seen billowing from Holcombe Hill, in Bury, near to Peel Tower this afternoon (May 13).
Images from the scene show smoke rising from the ground.
People are being urged to avoid the area and keep their windows closed nearby.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 12pm today (Tuesday, May 13), three fire engines from Bolton Central, Bury and Ramsbottom fire stations and a specialist fire appliance attended a moorland fire around Holcombe Hill, Bury.
"Firefighters are using one hose reel and beaters to tackle the blaze.
"Crews remain in attendance and are working with Greater Manchester Police to create a cordon.
"The public are advised to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors closed if nearby."
