LIVE: Police tape off main road after crash in early hours - latest updates

A main road on the border of Manchester and Stockport is shut this morning after an 'accident'.

A stretch of the A6 Stockport Road is currently closed off. It is shut between Lloyd Road and Cringle Road in Levenshulme, near the border with Stockport, according to traffic alert service Inrix.

It has reportedly been closed since around 5am due to an 'accident'. Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further details.

In a tweet posted at 5am, TfGM said: "Road Closures that may affect your morning route! A6 Wellington Rd S closed between Heaton Ln & Exchange St.

"A6 Stockport Rd closed between Lloyd Rd & Nall St. Local services are diverted, please check before travel."

A further tweet posted at 6.20am said: "**UPDATE** A6 Wellington Rd South in Stockport has re-opened.

"A6 Stockport Rd in Levenshulme remains closed; please check with your operator before travel."
