LIVE: Major Greater Manchester road shut off after shooting with huge police cordon in place - updates

A major road in Salford has been closed by police after shots were fired at a car, with a huge cordon in place taking in a stretch over the railway.

Pictures from the scene on Friday morning showed police tape stretched across the road and officers guarding a large cordon.

A stretch of Broughton Road has been closed close to the junctions with Ford Lane and Gloucester Street. The area covers the railway bridge.

GMP have this morning now confirmed that detectives have launched an investigation after shots were fired at a car at around 4am this morning.

No one, thankfully, has been injured, GMP has said in an update. It happened at the junction of Langley Road South and Lissadel Street in Salford.

The busy road is off the A6 roundabout at Pendleton, Salford. The road's closure is likely to cause traffic delays in the area on Friday morning as the route is used by many as an alternative to getting into Manchester city centre by Chapel Street.

Detectives in Salford have started an investigation after it is believed shots were fired at a car.
