LIVE: Manchester trains CANCELLED with warning of disruption for hours - latest updates

Several trains have been cancelled in Manchester as an urgent safety inspection takes place.

Railway lines are currently blocked at Heald Green this morning (August 13), affecting services between Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

At least five trains have been cancelled heading from the city centre to the airport between 9.30am and 10am.

And National Rail is warning passengers to expect ongoing disruption throughout the morning.

A National Rail spokesperson said: "A safety inspection between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport means some lines are blocked.

"As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

"Disruption is expected until 12:00."

Northern, TransPennine Express, Avanti West Coast and Transport for Wales services are all affected, according to National Rail.
