LIVE: M6 traffic as lorry overturns and forces huge section of motorway to shut completely - latest updates
Emergency services are on the scene this morning (August 11) following an incident on the M6.
Police, paramedics and the fire service are in attendance on the motorway between J41 for Wigton and J42 for Carlisle South, in Cumbria.
Cumbria Police said the incident happened at 3.43am this morning (August 11) and the collision involved a HGV and a Vauxhall Corsa.
Images from the scene show a lorry as tipped over and is blocking sections of both the north and southbound carriageways.
No serious injuries have been reported while officers say the closure will be in place 'for some time' and are warning drivers to 'avoid the area'.
A diversion route is now in place for motorists travelling both northbound and southbound.

There are long delays and heavy congestion on the A6 between Penrith and Carlisle as motorists avoid the M6 closure.
Stagecoach Cumbria notified customers of delays to some services as a result.
They posted the following statement on X.
The M6 is closed between Carlisle and Penrith resulting in traffic diverting via A6 there is a possibility our 104s will be running late
