A main road near Glossop has been closed off this afternoon amid an incident, with police at the scene.

There is queuing traffic due to the ongoing closure of the A57 Brookfield Road

The road is closed in both directions due to a police incident from A628 Market Street (Gun Inn traffic lights) to Woolley Bridge Road. There is currently congestion to Market Street.

Several bus services have been diverted.

Residents have been posting in local Facebook groups urging people to avoid the area due to 'gridlock’ on the roads.

One person wrote: “Ambulances have just left but the air ambulance is still there, it’s gridlocked avoid the area”.

Another said: "It's causing a backlog all over the area, taken me an hour from Mottram to Hadfield.”

The road has now reopened but ‘queuing traffic’ remains in the area.

The latest update from live traffic service Inrix reads: "Queueing traffic due to earlier police incident on A57 Brookfield Road in both directions from A628 Market Street (Gun Inn traffic lights) to Woolley Bridge Road. All lanes have been reopened."

Several eye witnesses have reported seeing an air ambulance in a field at Tara Brook Farm on Woolley Road.
