LIVE: Road shut in Tameside with police cordon in place after crash - latest updates
A road in Tameside is cordoned off by police this morning after a crash.
A stretch of Newmarket Road in Ashton-under-Lyne is currently closed. Officers have taped off an area close to the bus stops near to the junction with Downing Street.
Pictures shared on social media show at least one badly damaged car within the cordon. It has not yet been confirmed whether anyone has been left injured.

Traffic is being diverted away from the area, with the Stagecoach 230 and 231 bus services running on a diversion route. Stagecoach said in a post on X: "Hi all, Newmarket Road is currently closed. 230 service is using Lord Sheldon Way and Market Street both directions.
"231 Service is serving Heartshead Estate then using Oldham Road, Lord Sheldon Way, Market Street to the turning circle Lumb Lane in both directions."
Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further details.

Some cannisters appear to be left strewn across the road within the cordon.
The road remains closed in both directions.
It is shut from Taunton Place to Taunton Hall Close.
According to traffic alert service Inrix, the road has been closed off from Taunton Place to Taunton Hall Close.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to the scene of the crash at around 4.45am.
Closures remain in place, the spokesperson added.

The cordon is in place close to the junction with
