LIVE: M62 closed and traffic at 'complete standstill' with hour-long delays - latest updates

The M62 has been closed with traffic said to be 'at a complete standstill' after a reported collision.

All traffic is being held 'temporarily' on the eastbound stretch of the motorway near Milnrow, Rochdale - towards Leeds.

Inrix, the traffic service provider, said: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M62 Eastbound from J21 A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way (Milnrow) to J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).

"Traffic has been held since 14:35 to attend to the accident in lane three."

National Highways reported delays of 30 minutes. "Please be patient we'll try and get you moving again soon," they said.

No further details have been revealed about the collision. But North West Motorway Police reported people getting out of their vehicles - urging them to stay inside.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
