LIVE: Long delays as all traffic stopped on M56 after crash - latest updates

There are long delays on a section of the M56 this morning after a crash.

All traffic has currently been stopped on the eastbound carriageway near junction four for Wythenshawe.

Vehicles are being moved from the carriageway, Highways England said, and a spillage is being cleared at the scene.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.

Traffic is queuing for several miles up to the incident.

In a tweet, Highways England said: "Traffic has been stopped on the #M56 eastbound within J4 #Wythenshawe to move vehicles from the carriageway and to clear a spillage following a collision.

"There are long delays with traffic spanning several miles on the approach. Please bear in mind if travelling to @manairport."

TfGM tweeted: "M56 EASTBOUND JUNCTION 4. Traffic held due to a police incident.

"Queues back to Junction 6 Please find alternative route."
