LIVE: Huge delays amid multi-vehicle crash on M62 - latest updates

Traffic is building following a multi-vehicle collision on the M62 off Eccles interchange.

Three lanes out of four have now been closed, with queues off the M60 and M602.

Motorists have reported a large emergency service presence, with reports of four to five fire engines at the scene, along with police and ambulances from around 8.10pm this evening (Friday, September 23).

It is not yet known how many vehicles have been involved in the collision, or if there are any reported injuries.

In a tweet, MancTraffic said: "M62 w/b j12-11 queues building after a multi-vehicle collision just after j12 so expect problems on the M60 & M602 before long."

The traffic monitoring account later added: "M62 w/b j12-11 crash UPDATE: 3 lanes (of 4) closed. Queues off the M60 & M602 remain."

Greater Manchester Police, the North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for a comment.

One motorist described the collision as the 'worst' they had ever seen.

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At approximately 8pm on Friday, 23rd September, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M62 Westbound between junction 12 to 11.

“One fire engine from Eccles quickly arrived at the scene. The collision involved four vehicles.
