LIVE: Greater Manchester motorway CLOSED following serious crash - latest updates

Queues are building on two Greater Manchester motorways following a serious crash near Rochdale.

A car has been involved in a collision on the A627(M) northbound, between the M62 and Rochdale this afternoon (October 26).

Footage from the scene, seen by the Manchester Evening News, appears to show a car has landed on its roof.

A man, believed to be the only person involved, has been taken to hospital for treatment after getting out of the car before emergency services arrived.

A road sign to the side of the motorway also appears to have been damaged in the collision.

The A627(M) is now closed northbound following the incident, according to Google traffic data.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers responded to an incident on A627 in Rochdale after reports that a vehicle overturned after colliding with a road sign and streetlighting.

"One male was taken to hospital and is being treated for his injures. Our officers are on the scene and there may be some delays following lane closures to ensure the safe recovery of those involved."

There is currently heavy traffic on the M62 in either direction approaching junction 20 for Rochdale.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added: "At around 2:45pm this afternoon (Sunday, October 26), firefighters were called to reports of a crash on the A627 in Rochdale near Sandbrook retail park.

“Two fire engines from Rochdale fire station, along with the technical rescue unit from Ashton fire station, quicky arrived at the scene where a car had crashed into the streetlighting and overturned.
