LIVE Family home cordoned off after suspected 'petrol bomb attack' on estate - updates

A cordon is in place outside a house in Manchester following a suspected petrol bomb attack, the Manchester Evening News understands. Police and firefighters are in attendance outside a property on Birch Hall Lane, in Longsight, this morning (February 6).

It's understood emergency services were first called out to an incident at a house late on Wednesday night. A property, believed to be a family home, has been taped off by police today. It's understood a number of people were inside the house at the time.

Officers are in attendance alongside investigators from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. Images from the scene show a downstairs window at the property has been smashed.

Other windows on both floors have been left open, while the front door of the house is also open. Enquiries are ongoing this morning.

Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed. Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have all been approached for further information.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service says crews attended a fire involving the living room of a property on Birch Hall Lane last night.

A fire service spokesperson said:

"At around 9.30pm on Wednesday (February 5) three fire engines from Gorton and Moss Side fire stations attended a fire involving the living room of a house on Birch Hall Lane, Manchester.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to extinguish the fire and make the area safe alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Polce and North West Ambulance Service.
