School issues statement after 'very unpleasant' video involving students emerges
School bosses say they are taking action after a 'very unpleasant' fight involving two students, which was caught on video. Footage began circulating on social media after violence broke out at Hazel Grove High School in Stockport, during lunchtime on Tuesday (February 11).
It shows two pupils throwing a number of punches and kicks as they grapple with each other. At one point, the pair fall to the floor with one of the boys raining punches down on the other, as a large group of other students gather round and watch.
The police were notified following the incident, the school on Jacksons Lane, Hazel Grove, has confirmed. However, the Manchester Evening News understands they were content to allow the school to handle it.
In a statement, the school said they were dealing with it 'robustly.' A spokesperson for the school said: “Earlier this week, there was an incident at lunchtime where there was a very unpleasant altercation between two students.
“We are dealing with this issue very robustly, using our policies and procedures, including issuing appropriate sanctions and support. We are also meeting with families concerned as a matter of urgency.
"We will always champion our students when there are things to celebrate, but we also quickly address situations where our high standards are not met.
“We work tirelessly to ensure our school is a place of aspiration, nurture and excellence – and this has been recognised in the external validation we have had.
"Situations like this are very rare at our school, but we will always listen and look to enhance everything that we do. We will continue to work closely with our students to embed our values and expectations.”
