LIVE: Cocaine-fuelled driver who killed gran as he tried to flee from police discovers his fate - court updates

A cocaine-fuelled driver who killed a grandmother after being chased by police is due to be sentenced this morning. Kathleen Kirby, 66, died after being hit on Bolton Road in Wigan.

As Chad Rimmington was being pursued by police, he reached a speed of 78mph in a 30mph zone. While driving on the wrong side of the road, he crashed into an Amazon delivery van.

This caused the van to spin and mount the pavement, hitting Ms Kirby and narrowly avoiding her partner, Cliff Bullen. She was pronounced dead about 90 minutes after the horror crash, which happened at about 2.30pm on June 26.

Rimmington, 32, of no fixed address, was arrested and later pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

He is due to be sentenced at Bolton Crown Court this morning.

The judge says he has heard of the 'tremendous pain' that Ms Kirby's loss has caused.

He said of Rimmington: "It is to be noted that you have attended court, you have listened attentively to those statements being read, and I observe that there were perceptive nods of acknowledgement."

Rimmington is crying in the dock, and Ms Kirby's family are also emotional as the details are being noted by the judge.

The judge is now rehearsing the facts of the collision.

As part of his summary, he rehearses details of an interview Rimmington had with police following the incident.

Rimmington refused to watch the CCTV footage and told police they could 'work it out for themselves'.

He told officers of his driving: "It was only dangerous as soon as the officer started chasing me."

Asked why he didn't stop, he said: "Because I had
