A child has suffered 'possible life-changing' injuries after being hit by a van at a Tim Horton's drive thru restaurant.

The restaurant on Manchester Road in Oldham is currently taped off, with witnesses describing a police scene in the area since around 3pm this afternoon (January 26).

Pictures from the scene show the car park to the restaurant and drive thru closed off, with police officers and vehicles seen guarding the area.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police said: "Emergency services are responding to a road traffic collision in Hollinwood involving a van and a child.

"At around 3.06pm today (Friday 26 January), police were called to a road traffic collision at a drive thru restaurant on Manchester Road.

"The 14-year-old child has suffered possible life-changing injuries and has been taken to hospital.

"The male driver of the van has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving."

It's understood the restaurant remains open to the public but the drive thru has been closed.

Tim Horton's have been approached for comment.
