Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson in hospital after being taken ill during training
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is in hospital but in a stable condition after feeling unwell at training on Thursday, the Premier League club announced.
The 76-year-old was due to hold a press conference at 1.30pm about Monday's Premier League match against Everton. But the media waiting outside the club's New Beckenham training ground were told it wouldn't happen, initially sparking rumours that Palace might have sacked Hodgson, with Oliver Glasner, who used to manage Eintracht Frankfurt, likely to get the job.
But some time later, the club shared an update which said: "Following news that Roy Hodgson was taken ill during today's training session, we can confirm that he is now stable and is currently undergoing tests in hospital."
"Everybody at the club sends their best wishes to Roy for a speedy recovery."
Hodgson managed his 200th match as Eagles boss on Monday when his team lost 3-1 at Selhurst Park to Chelsea.
The ex-England boss is in his second time managing the south London club. He came back for the last 10 games of last season when he signed a short-term deal to take over from Patrick Vieira, who was sacked.
He led the team to finish 11th before agreeing to stay on as manager for the 2023-24 season. But Palace have only managed to win six out of 24 league games this season, with just three wins since their 1-0 victory at Manchester United in September.
Unhappy fans have been showing banners in recent weeks asking for Hodgson to be fired and expressing their disappointment with how the club is being managed.
