It is unclear at this stage if anyone has been injured.

Queues are said to be building in the area.

We will have updates on this incident as we get them in the live blog below

According to National Highways, traffic has now been released, however one lane, the outside of the three lanes, remains closed after a vehicle hit the central reservation

According to the National Highways website, the incident is affecting the westbound stretch of the motorway (the side heading from Hyde towards Denton). Their map show it has happened between junction 3 and junction 2 with the subsequent closure affecting the stretch from junction 3 near Hyde bus station to junction 1A near Crown Point.

They say 'the event is expected to clear' and that 'normal traffic conditions are expected' between 10am and 10:15am.

The police say they are trying to get the vehicle to the hard shoulder
