'Like Van de Beek' — Manchester United fans share Shinji Kagawa regret after retro shirt photo

Former Manchester United Shinji Kagawa has been pictured in a retro kit, prompting some fans to rue what might have been.

The Japan hero played 57 times for the club between 2012 and 2014, lifting the Premier League in 2013 — the last time the trophy was brought back to Old Trafford. The 33-year-old — who currently plays for top-tier Belgian side Sint-Truiden — was a well-respected figure during his time in Manchester, although didn't quite hit the heights some expected.

He came to Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson after impressing for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. However, he ultimately returned to Dortmund after struggling to find consistency under David Moyes amid an underwhelming stay.

While a number of Reddit users reminisced about the kit designs of years gone by, many other United fans looked back at Kagawa’s time with frustration that the club couldn’t get more out of him.

Madeline: Didn't we buy him to play behind Rooney, then Robin van Persie signed out of nowhere and he had to play out wide to accommodate everyone.

Ri0t333: Miss the man, felt he could've contributed more if used properly.

BradyBunch88: Him and Chicharito are two players I really wish we had kept. I really rated him he just needed more game time and the right system, was a good player for Dortmund.

audienceandaudio: Kagawa reminds me a little bit of Van
