Manchester United fans share Erik ten Hag theory following David de Gea training pictures

Manchester United fans believe Erik ten Hag may have dropped a hint over his plans for David de Gea in training on Monday.

The goalkeeper was one of the 28 players selected by Ten Hag for his first day in charge of United training. A number of senior players made their return to Carrington as United kicked off their pre-season preparations.

De Gea was joined by fellow goalkeepers Tom Heaton, Matej Kovar and Nathan Bishop. Dean Henderson was absent, with De Gea’s regular deputy set to complete a loan move to Nottingham Forest.

That move likely confirms De Gea as United’s number one again next season. The Spaniard was in the thick of the action on the first day of training ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

One picture from Carrington caught the attention of United fans. The image shows De Gea with the ball at his feet during a drill, with Ten Hag watching on.

Fans have speculated that could be an indicator that the new United boss is eager to get his goalkeeper more comfortable with the ball at his feet. While De Gea has been one of United's standout players over the years, there have been questions raised over his ability on the ball.

The sight of Ten Hag watching De Gea closely will no doubt encourage United fans over his plans for the 31-year-old. It could also come at the perfect moment for the player, who has found himself out of the Spanish national team in recent times, and will be hoping to earn a place in Luis Enrique’s side for this year’s World Cup.
