Former Manchester United star Nani set for transfer to new club

Former Manchester United star Nani is expected to join Melbourne Victory on a free transfer this summer. The Portuguese winger played under Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal between 2007 and 2015, however he spent his final season on loan with Sporting Lisbon.

Nani won the Players' Player of the Year award and was included in the PFA Team of the Year in the 2010-11 season as United lifted their 19th League title. Supporters will also remember his assist for Wayne Rooney's spectacular overhead kick in the Manchester Derby.

United fans will remember Nani fondly for his silky skills, goals from distance and also his acrobatic celebrations which Ferguson hated (due to the potential of injury). But they will also remember the frustration that the winger brought when his tricks did not pay off.

Since his departure from Old Trafford however, he has played for Fenerbache, Valencia, Lazio and a stint with Orlando City in the MLS. His most recent spell was with newly-promoted Venezia in Serie A where he played alongside former United goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Australian media are now reporting he is due to sign for Melbourne Victory. Nani will hopefully be in action during the pre-season as United are set to face Melbourne Victory in pre-season on July 15th. If Cristiano Ronaldo plays it will be the first time that the former club and country teammates have shared a pitch since 2017.
