'Life-changing' hack for drying clothes for free in winter using kitchen tool

An expert has revealed a "genius" trick for drying clothes in winter for free using a common kitchen gadget.

As the winter weather takes hold, with temperatures dropping and rain becoming even more frequent, drying clothes becomes a significant challenge. Unfortunately, most UK homes lack utility rooms, leading to bulky clothes airers taking up valuable living space throughout the colder months.

Deyan Dimitrov, CEO and co-founder at Laundryheap, has shared several expert tips on how to dry clothes cheaply and quickly - including using a salad spinner to dry your garments.

He explained: "If you need to quick-dry a few small items in a pinch, repurpose your salad spinner. The kitchen staple works the same way that your laundry machine’s spin cycle does, but this DIY hack kicks off the drying process in a couple of minutes, rather than twenty or thirty."

He suggested simply placing one or two small items in the spinner, ensuring there’s enough room to let the water drain out. He added: "Then spin until they are damp, rather than dripping. Once most of the water is removed, move on to your normal drying method. This works best for clothing made of quick drying fabrics, like athletic wear, to help them dry faster."

This particular technique has gained popularity on social media, with numerous TikTok users posting videos of their success in using the kitchen cupboard favourite to speed up the drying process.

Cleaning content creator Sarah McGlory's innovative use of a salad spinner as a makeshift clothes washer and dryer has garnered much attention on social media. In her video voiceover, she said: "If you have to get by without a lot of resources, you learn how to be so crafty."
