Liam Scales in Aberdeen FC transfer hint as Celtic showing earns plaudits amid Barry Robson new signings timeline

Liam Scales has given Aberdeen fans an update on his future as the defender was a standout for Celtic in pre-season.

The Irishman experienced a homecoming in Dublin as he was named in Brendan Rodgers' starting eleven as part of a makeshift defence. The defender slotted in at centre-half in the absence of top stars Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt, partnering Stephen Welsh against a Wolves side that managed a 1-1 draw with the Scottish champions at the Aviva Stadium. Scales spent last season on loan at Pittodrie and Barry Robson's men could look to get the 24-year-old on a permanent deal.

It comes after Aberdeen saw off Charlton Athletic in London with a 3-2 victory, with Dons fans being baffled by Ylber Ramadani's gesture of throwing his kit in to the crowd as Robson responded curtly when quizzed on transfer business in the North East. The third placed side have made good inroads in the window but the former Hoops star moved to urge patience as the transfer market slowly nears its end.

Meanwhile across the Irish sea, Scales reckons it's uncertain what his future may hold, but that his aim is to make an impression. He told Celtic TV: "I don't know what is ahead of me. I just want to do as well as I can and make as good of an impression as I can on the people here. To do my best, that's as much as I can do."

Robson, meanwhile, added earlier: "There is always a lot of speculation around a lot of our players. Until anything happens – and nothing is happening right now – you can say that about a lot of players. I was just glad the fans were watching a team today that was fast and aggressive and really wanted to run for their club.
