Leicester City star on Newcastle transfer radar as Rodgers defends Tielemans

Leicester City have a 'clear advantage' in the race to sign Club Brugge midfielder Charles De Ketelaere, according to reports.

The 21-year-old have been linked with City on numerous occasions over the last few months, with Brendan Rodgers' side 'planning' on making a bid in the summer.

Belgian journalist Alexandre Braeckman has backed up the claim that the Foxes were in 'pole position', confirming the the clubs are in contact together.

He said on his Twitter: "Slowly, but surely Leicester started informal exchanges with the #ClubBrugge for Charles De Ketelaere.

"They hope to lower the price a little in the next few weeks (Bruges hopes for 40M €). The player is interested in the challenge.

"#Leicester is the only club to have formally come forward so far," he added. "AC Milan plans to do the same soon. But the situation does not change: Leicester have a clear advantage on this file. End of contract in 2024 for De Ketelaere."

Kasper Schmeichel has been made as one of Newcastle United's options this transfer window, according to talkSPORT.

The cash-rich Magpies are keen to sign a new number one to add competition to Martin Dubravka and are monitoring Schmeichel's situation at City with only a year remaining on his contract.

Bernd Leno, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone have all been touted with a move to St James' Park since their Saudi Arabi-backed takeover last year and Schmeichel has now been added to the list.
