Leicester City ratings v Aston Villa: Fofana endures off-day as Dewsbury-Hall leads way again
Leicester City played out a drab goalless draw with Aston Villa as their Premier League campaign continues to peter out.
Once again, City enjoyed plenty of possession, but did very little with it, and they have now gone three games without winning, all against bottom-half sides. If it wasn't over before, City's push for a top-seven finish is definitely now finished.
The positives were the return of Jamie Vardy, the striker playing the final 20 minutes after recovering from a knee problem, and a more solid defensive performance, with no injury-time goal conceded. Here's how we scored the players.
He had very little to do, such was the drab nature of the game, and so he only had one difficult save to make, closing the angle to keep out Watkins. He caught a corner late on to relieve pressure, but there were a few more he perhaps could have claimed. His distribution was good.
It’s a boost to City’s attack that they have a right-back so willing to get forward, and he did nearly get on the end of a cross into the six-yard box, but otherwise he did not have too much of an impact in attacking areas, and his crossing and passing occasionally let him down. He was not caught out defensively though.
His early mistake, when the sun appeared to get in his eyes, was nearly costly, and he exacerbated the situation by trying too hard to win the ball straight back from Watkins. The Villa striker continued to torment him, beating him to long balls, while Mings also escaped his attention at set-pieces. An off-day for the Frenchman.
