Gary Lineker asks Jamie Vardy question as ‘outstanding’ Leicester City man praised on MOTD

Jamie Vardy's goalscoring prowess at the age of 35 has been called ‘outstanding’ by Match of the Day pundit Martin Keown after the striker’s brace against Norwich City.

The City striker was back of the scoresheet in the 3-0 win over the Canaries at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday night. The three points moved City back up to 10th place in the Premier League.

Vardy opened the scoring with a deflected effort over the head of Angus Gunn in the opening exchanges of the second half, before scoring his second goal of the game just eight minutes later. James Maddison added City’s third 20 minutes from time as he found the net against his former club.

The game was Vardy’s first Premier League start in two months after returning from a knee injury and his performance earned praise from the pundits on Match of the Day. “The longevity of this player is outstanding, he’s 35 years of age, his manager there almost takes that for granted, he shouldn’t because Gary, I think you were retired at 34, this guy is still doing it at 35,” Keown said on Match of the Day on Wednesday night.

“Trying to get across the defender there, that’s what he’s noted for. For me it seems like an obvious run but defenders struggle to pick it up, and there he is, that left foot, he’s never frightened to use it.

“A lovely little flick there, I think that’s part of his game he’s improved on. He’s a player who came to this level quite late, but he has that nose for a goal and today we saw that coming back. That ball in behind, he stretches the defenders, that’s what he’s noted for, just couldn’t find the finish there.”
