Leicester City player ratings v Chelsea: Wesley Fofana leads strong defensive effort

Leicester City’s place in the top half of the Premier League table is practically secure after they produced a diligent defensive display to earn a point at Chelsea.

Unless there is a seven-goal swing with Brentford on the final day, City will finish in the top 10 for a fifth straight campaign, matching the best run in their history. They earned it thanks to a professional, defensively aggressive showing at third-placed Chelsea, sticking to their counter-attacking plan and keeping the hosts at bay.

James Maddison scored his 17th of the season with a brilliant early strike, with Marcos Alonso responding with a volley later in the first half. But when Chelsea pressure was expected, there was only one big chance for the hosts to win it, with Christian Pulisic putting the ball wide with the goal gaping.

He produced one of his best saves of the season too, a superb stop to tip over Chalobah’s drive. Alonso’s goal beat him at his near post, but it was well struck.

He had a quieter match than his fellow defenders in the first half, but that was probably because Chelsea felt they could have more joy where he wasn’t.
