Chelsea and Manchester United 'closely interested' in Leicester City transfer

Chelsea and Manchester United are "closely interested" in Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, according to reports.

Both clubs are eyeing a summer transfer for the 21-year-old centre-back who impressed towards the end of the season, despite missing much of it with a broken leg and ankle ligament damage.

On the whole, Leicester dramatically improved defensively upon his return to the team and he was in line for his first call-up to the France national team this weekend though he is missing the game in order to get married.

According to French outlet RMC Sport, both Chelsea and Man United want Fofana, with the report stating that either club can expect to pay €80m (£68.3m). A more realistic figure would be £80m, but even that may seem lowball to some.

Interest from both teams would make sense. Man United could still be stronger at centre-back despite signing Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane in recent years, while Chelsea are losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers this summer.

Fofana has been linked with Chelsea before but is under contract at City until the summer of 2027, so the ball is very much in Leicester's court if there is genuine transfer interest.
