Leicester City manager makes 'greater' challenge admission as contract extension triggered

Good morning Foxes fans, here are your Leicester City headlines on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

Qualifying for Europe will be a greater challenge for Leicester City next season with Brendan Rodgers expecting their mid-table rivals to invest heavily.

City finished four points off the European places in the Premier League this term and so won’t play football on the continent in the new campaign. The aim is to again disrupt the established top six and regain a place in one of Uefa’s competitions, but City are not the only club trying to bridge the gap to the elite.

Aston Villa have been the busiest side early in the window, not only confirming the signing of Philippe Coutinho on a £17m permanent deal from Barcelona – the Brazilian taking a pay cut but still earning £125,000 a week – but also adding Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer from Marseille as well as Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos for £26m. They have also been linked with Luis Suarez.

Leicester City could keep a close eye on Chelsea’s centre-back hunt amid their reported interest in teenage sensation Levi Colwill.

City are on the lookout for a central defender this summer, ideally, a left-sided one to play next to Wesley Fofana, and Colwill ticks all the right boxes. The 19-year-old has enjoyed a hugely impressive season on loan at Huddersfield that could finish with promotion to the Premier League this weekend as the Terriers take on Nottingham Forest in the play-off final.

But where Colwill ends up next season remains to be seen. Chelsea are losing at least two of their centre-backs on free transfers, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both leaving, giving Colwill a chance to fill the gap.
