Leicester City move towards fulfilling Brendan Rodgers prophecy that will delight squad and fans

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall will be at Leicester City for the foreseeable future after signing a long-term contract, but it was difficult to envisage him leaving the club anyway.

He may have only been in the first team line-up for six months, but with the impact he’s made and how quickly he’s become an important member of the side, it feels like he is part of the furniture. Then again, he has been associated with the club for 16 years, since joining the academy aged eight.

It’s the passion he has shown on the pitch too. No player celebrated goals and wins like Dewsbury-Hall did last season, no player seemed to fight for the badge like the 23-year-old did (even if he did grow up supporting Manchester United). With the way he has represented City over the past six months, it’s hard to picture him ever wanting to play for another club.

But signing a new deal does commit to ink his future at the King Power Stadium, and the length of the contract shows just how crucial the club consider him too. A deal to 2027 puts him on the same length of contract as Wesley Fofana, arguably the club’s most valuable asset.

Committing his future with a new contract also sees him take a big stride towards fulfilling Brendan Rodgers’ prediction. Back in March, the manager earmarked him for the armband.

“I think he’s a captain at some time in the future here,” Rodgers said. “He leads, he inspires, he’ll say what he thinks. He’s also very respectful and very humble. He’s a great ambassador for the club and the academy.”
