Former Leicester City star Danny Drinkwater sent Chelsea message as decision confirmed

Danny Drinkwater has been sent a farewell message from Chelsea after the Blues confirmed he is to depart Stamford Bridge this summer.

Drinkwater swapped Leicester City for Chelsea in a deal worth £35m back in 2017 a year after N'Golo Kante following the Foxes' Premier League title winning success. His Blues debut came in a League Cup win over Everton whilst his only Chelsea goal was in the final game of 2017, a 5-0 thrashing of Stoke City.

The 32-year-old was a rare unsuccessful signing under former owner Roman Abramovich, making only 23 appearances for the Blues, and described the move from the King Power Stadium to London as a "business deal gone wrong".

Despite making such a low number of appearances for Chelsea, their media department still managed to find 140 words to detail his time at Stamford Bridge.

As part of a statement announcing the departures of Andreas Christensen, Charly Musonda, Jake Clarke-Salter and Drinkwater, the club said: "Danny Drinkwater will leave the club this summer as his Chelsea contract expires at the end of June. He has been with the Blues since 2017.

"Drinkwater signed from Leicester, where he had won the Premier League title alongside N’Golo Kante, making his debut in a League Cup win over Everton and scoring his only Chelsea goal in our last match of 2017, as we thrashed Stoke City 5-0. In the second half of the 2017/18 season, Drinkwater featured in a 1-1 Champions League home draw with Barcelona and started the first four of our seven FA Cup ties en route to lifting the trophy at Wembley.

"In total, Drinkwater made 23 appearances for Chelsea, in addition to time spent on loan in England and abroad, with his most recent competitive match for us coming in the 2018 Community Shield."
