Leicester City issue rears its ugly head once more as duo pile pressure on Gareth Southgate

The issue of game management has reared its ugly head again for Leicester City.

Brendan Rodgers' men have now dropped eight points in injury time this season, with three of those coming over the last five days. The manager defended his players after the match against Everton, saying his young squad will learn from those goals and that he was happy with his team's performance overall.

While some will consider that understandable, it will be unacceptable to frustrated Leicester fans who are wanting to see their side grow. It feels as though these late goals are stunting that growth somewhat, which is a shame given how far they have come over the past three years. Rodgers' decision to replace Papy Mendy with Daniel Amartey on 84 minutes has been cited as a bizarre decision. It is not the first time that has been the case this season, with the dramatic collapse at home to Tottenham after Jannik Vestergaard's introduction immediately springing to mind.

After FA Cup and Community Shield success last year, it looked like the squad had developed a winning mentality and would kick on this season. While injuries and illness have certainly played their part, a side which is growing together are still conceding late goals.

One up side from the game was the performance of Papy Mendy, who worked hard alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to dominate and overrun the Everton midfield. Such was Mendy's influence that Everton boss Frank Lampard picked him out after the match.

When asked what changes he made at half time, he said: "It was tactical. Mendy was getting too much of the ball and we couldn’t get near him. There was a tactical issue and the fact we were off it a little bit, which hasn’t happened too much here at Goodison.”
