'Surprise' - Roma hero noticed crucial mistake that wrecked Leicester City Euro dream

Roma hero Tammy Abraham says he found it a "surprise" that he was marked by Leicester City's Ricardo Pereira at the corner he scored from as he wrecked the Foxes' Euro dream.

Abraham scored the only goal of the night at the Stadio Olimpico as he climbed above Pereira to seal a 1-0 win for Jose Mourinho's side and a 2-1 victory on aggregate in the Europa Conference League semi-final clash. Leicester fans on social media were quick to ask why Pereira was marking Abraham given the difference in height in what proved to be a defining moment for Brendan Rodgers' side.

Set-pieces have been a problem for Leicester all season and, reflecting on Roma's triumph, former Chelsea striker Abraham said he too found it odd that Pereira was assigned marking duties.

"Before the game started, the fans won us this game," he said. "We could hear them before getting into the stadium and throughout the warm-up. We weren't even on the pitch and we heard them. The win was for them and my team. Hopefully we can go all the way.

"My job is to be active around the box. That's the kind of striker I am. Whenever I sniff an opportunity I try to take my chance. I'm not the best at heading but today was a pretty good one. It was a bit of a surprise [Ricardo Pereira was marking him] but it doesn't matter who is marking me, if I sniff a chance I have to go for it.

"I tried and my team tried. You had to give your all. We left everything out there. In the last couple of minutes I couldn't breathe. He told me to keep going and we did that."
