Left-field Lawrence Shankland to Celtic transfer shout gets one guarantee as Matt O'Riley asking price 'raised'

Andy Walker reckons that Lawrence Shankland has the "pedigree" to succeed at Celtic amid wild rumours linking the Hearts' striker with a move to Ibrox.

Record Sport revealed that the Scotland international is at the top of Rangers shopping list and understands Philippe Clement held a series of discussions with the board over the prospect of a move for the 28-year-old this summer. It’s believed the Ibrox hierarchy made it clear to the Belgian funds are in place to table an offer following the sale of Sam Lammers - but swirls are ramping up that the Hoops' could be in the market for a deal.

Norwich City have made Celtic wait to bring in Adam Idah with speculation ramping up online that Shankland is now on the Parkhead agenda. While a deal for the boyhood Rangers fan would appear unlikely at this stage of the window, Walker reckons it could be a good signing for Brendan Rodgers he was coy on the chances of the frontman arriving in Glasgow's east end.

He told Go Radio: “If Lawrence Shankland was a Celtic player would score goals. Everyone talks about what Lawrence Shankland can’t do - and maybe that cost us a bit in the Euros, where he deserved a bit more game time - but give him a heavier strip and I think he will meet the challenge. Whether it is Celtic or Rangers, I think he has a pedigree that tells you he will score goals in the top flight of Scottish football."
